The Pre-Raphaelites and Victorian Realism in Art. Though the Pre-Raphaelites sought inspiration in 15th century art, they did so because they believed that it was truer to nature, and though their subjects were often Biblical or literary, artists such as Holman Hunt and Madox Brown wished also to comment on the social issues of their own age. Thus they made important contributions to Victorian realism, which flourished also in the work of painters such as Holl, Herkomer, Fildes and Frith.
